RELIGION : FAITHS

There are many Faiths in Nym, most of which are either quite small, or extremely obscure. One could say there are more beliefs and faiths than there are gods, as every culture in Nym has at some point developed hundreds of varying beliefs on their own, often absent the interaction or interference of any known deities. In fact, Faiths are usually founded and maintained almost exclusively by mortals.

 

Faiths refer mainly to religious or philosophical beliefs that don't necessarily involve any deities, or they might focus entirely on one singular deity rather than a group of them. The largest Faiths tend to put a singular deity on a pedestal, and those Faiths further continue to worship anyone or anything that is closely related to that deity.

 

However, even if the Faith revolves around a god, it is usually the mortals within that Faith, such as disciples and Godchosen or the like, who remain the greatest focus. Their journeys, their travails, their many deeds and achievements in the name of their gods; these tales are written down and kept in holy books and scriptures, which are then shared and taught to others religiously.

Some Faiths are more inclined to teach various life lessons, mired in wisdom and centuries of philosophical debate. These Faiths tend to revere spirits and the flow of Aether, or they focus entirely on the many facets of mortal life, and the ethical views and issues that stem from such lives.
