BESTIARY : DRACONIDS

Also referred to as draconians, dragonlike or draconics, these creatures are primarily reptilian or amphibian in nature. Draconids are beings that are closely related to dragons; either by being dragons, having been created by dragons, having spawned from dragons, or followed a similar evolutionary path as dragons.

The majority of draconid creatures are found on the continent of Korash and in the Reaping Lands (though they also exist in some form on all continents), where very particular and noteworthy species roam the jungles, plains, deserts and general lands. Great saurs, basilisks, elusive nidians, sneaky kobolds, and skittering xinks are just some of a diverse number of draconid species; ranging from animalistic reptile beasts to primitive, semi-intelligent wilders.

The exact origin of draconids isn't well known, and it is believed that the earliest species have existed since the Primordial Times; before Nymborn Dragons were created. The appearance and creation of the Nymborn Dragons were likely partially inspired by draconid primordials, along with the inspirations acquired from the Celestial Dragons of the Shimmering Belt.

The relation and similarities between dragons and other draconids only became definably apparent during the reign of the Dragon Gods, when they would elevate and experiment with various reptilian breeds to finally create the Scaleshaped Kith. Species that didn't meet their standards or expectations would independently grow and spread throughout Korash, with some eventually managing to reach the lands of the northern continents.

Other draconids evolved on their own on the other continents, and often more resemble amphibians, serpents or common lizards. The diversity of species remains strongest in Korash, where many such draconid beasts were bred for purposes of war, beasts-of-burden, or food.

Most beast-like draconids are invasive and highly territorial creatures, who will force existing species away from a region and make it their own, or migrate to newer regions shortly afterwards. Draconids are mainly solitary creatures, but, depending on the species, they can form nests, herds or familial communities. Wilder, more primal draconid species are highly aggressive and ferocious.

Certain draconid species are often hunted or bred for their hides and scales, which are tougher than most creatures', and provide considerable value when used in weapon or armour making.
